1. We recommend using NASA's World Wind, or any other maps you have access to.
(Note: We know World Wind only runs on Windoze. Please DO NOT send any Google Maps or Google Earth images, as we are unsure of the legal ramifications.
We are 2 independent developers who do this as a hobby - we don't need the hassle. If anybody knows the legal issues involved, please let us know!).
- If you are using World Wind, in the Layer Manager, make sure Images -> USGS Imagery -> USGS Urban Area Ortho is checked for clear images.
- If the image is still blurry for your area, you may have to use Images -> USGS Imagery -> USGS Digital Ortho (which is black and white).
2. Mark up the maps with the following points for each hole:
- All teeboxes
- Center of the green
- 2 different markers anywhere between 30 and 70 yards
- Be sure to label the points (eg: BlueTeebox, Pin1, 50YD, etc.)
- Here we have the first hole of the Fleming course at Harding Park, San Francisco.
3. The final size of the image must be 320x460. Please submit .png files at 72 ppi.
- We recommend working at a larger size but in the same proportions, like 640x920, and then resizing before submitting.
- Make sure you rotate the image so the green is at the top, and leave room on the right for the User Display. The User Display is 140 pixels wide.
- Also, create an image with the same specs for the green-zoom image.
4. Optional: Use your favorite graphics program to trace over the World Wind map to create your own rendition!
Here is what we need for each course:
Folder with name of course containing:
- Overview maps and zoomed-in green maps with markers (use course name & hole number for a naming convention)
- Clean versions of overview and zoomed-in green maps with no markers; or, the clean versions can be your own renditions.
- Text file containing the lat/long points if you'd like this included in the GPS version -
Download the template here
- Either a copy of the course's scorecard or a link to it
- Zip this up and email it to maps@iyardage.com
You must write the following sentence in the body of the email, or we will not be able to accept the maps:
